Brooklyn Museum Presents Halloween Mummy Tours in October

In celebration of Halloween, the Brooklyn Museum will present the following mummy-themed tours in October:

Thursday, October 6, 8 p.m.
Gallery Tour: “The Secret Lives of Mummies”
Why did the Ancient Egyptians mummify the deceased? What secrets and surprises have been uncovered by the latest scientific research into the Brooklyn Museum’s mummies’ previous lives? This tour, led by Museum Guide Roy Capps, will explore mysterious and practical objects associated with mummies, mummification, and their journey through ideas and history.

Thursday, October 27, 7 p.m.
Behind-the-Scenes Curator Tour: “Exploring The Book of the Dead”
Curator Ed Blieberg and Conservator Rachel Danzing discuss the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead of the Goldworker of Amun, Sobekmose on view in The Mummy Chamber. Registration required. To register, e-mail museum.guides@brooklynmuseum.org or call 718-501-6229.

Sunday, October 30, 4 p.m.
“Mummies, Mysteries, and the Book of the Dead: The Halloween Tour” What secrets and surprises have been uncovered by the latest scientific research into the Brooklyn Museum’s mummies’ previous lives? What mysteries still remain? Just in time for Halloween, this tour, led by Museum Guide Roy Capps, will explore mysterious and practical objects associated with the Ancient Egyptian’s belief in the afterlife, the secret lives of mummies, and the power of the Book of the Dead.
